2 Dangerous Reasons You Should Stop Using TrueCaller

> TrueCaller app is really trending in the mobile world of smartphone. It is useful for many reasons like identifying an unknown caller or message sender.

> It is also useful as a spam blocker for both calls and unsolicited SMS text and service or advert messages. Those advantages seem mouth-watering, right?

Have you ever thought that Truecaller may be dangerous in some ways? Reason with me below:

1. Apparently Steals Your Contact List
When installing the app, one of the permissions it demands is to have access to the contact list and manage it. This right may be needed to perform its advertised function, and especially if it needs to replace your default phone call app. That is not where the problem is. The problem is that Truecaller app can misuse that right and just... phew! Grab your entire contact list exactly the way you saved your contacts and upload them to their server! How do I know this?

Have you ever wondered where Truecaller gets the real and sometimes funny names of unknown or even your own contacts when dialed from other people's enabled phones? The truth is that... The name it brings out was not generated by Truecaller, but rather, it was grabbed from someone's phone's contact list exactly the way it was saved by that person. That looks productive kind of. But this gives out too much information if the name was stolen from someone's phone who knows so much about you.

Imagine someone saving your name with your workplace and location and other sensitive details. Truecaller gives them all out.

Another suspicion comes from the fact that ... How are we so sure Truecaller do not sell those phone number list in your contact to marketers who will use them for unsolicited SMS service adverts? Now you may wonder where all those unsolicited texts come from
The major problem still comes below:

2. Anonymous Truecaller Search Gives You Out!

To understand this, use Truecaller on a separate phone where your number is not saved. Now, assuming your name has been recognized correctly as George Churchill on the Truecaller server, now simply search with name on the app on the neutral phone.

Truecaller will give you out! This time, your phone number to someone who is just stalking you! That stalker may now start disturbing you on phone calls and Whatsapp etc. Try it. Search your name on a neutral phone Truecaller app.

The points above may not matter to someone who does not give a hoot about privacy. But per adventure you do, please reconsider using or not using the app.

All these points are subject to personal verification. And the level of impacts on personal privacy level.

Hello! Truecaller here to help clear up some misinformation in your post. Truecaller follows Google Play and Apple App Store guidelines, which means the app does not upload contacts from users to be displayed publicly. You can see this mentioned in our descriptions as well.

As for being able to search a number, that is what the app is all about: helping people identify who is trying to get in touch with them. If a person does not want to be on Truecaller, they can simply opt-out of the service via our website. But did you know that when you search the number that the number owner is notified who searched for them? This helps people understand who is wanting to get in contact with them, and helps to create a more transparent environment for mobile communication. If you want to learn more about how the app works, feel free to reach out to us on one of our social pages, or by visiting our FAQ at support.truecaller.com. Thanks!
